Most people know Aflac for their supplemental health insurance and that famous duck. But Aflac also offers a solid final expense whole life insurance policy that’s worth considering — especially if brand recognition and simplicity are important to you.

Here’s my honest review of Aflac’s final expense offering, including what I like, what I don’t, and who it’s best for.

Aflac Final Expense Plans Overview

Aflac offers two types of final expense whole life coverage:

Level Plan (Full Coverage From Day One)

Issue Ages 45 – 80
Coverage $5,000 – $50,000 (ages 45–55) / down to $25,000 max (ages 76–80)
Death Benefit Full benefit from day one for both accidental and natural death
Medical Exam None — health questionnaire only
Annual Admin Fee $48
Riders Accelerated Death Benefit, Accidental Death Benefit, Children’s Term Rider

This is Aflac’s standard final expense plan. You answer health questions, and if approved, you get full coverage starting immediately. No waiting period, no reduced benefits.

Modified Plan (For Health Challenges)

Issue Ages 45 – 75
Coverage $2,000 – $25,000
Death Benefit Graded for natural death in first 2 years (premiums + 10%); full benefit year 3+
Accidental Death Full benefit from day one
Annual Admin Fee $48

The Modified Plan is Aflac’s option for people with more serious health conditions. Similar to other carriers’ graded plans — limited payout in the first 2 years for natural causes, but accidental death pays full from day one.

Aflac Final Expense Pricing

According to Aflac, the average cost of a $10,000 final expense policy for people over 60 is $74/month ($888/year). That’s on the higher side compared to other carriers.

For comparison:

That price difference adds up over time. For a $10,000 policy, you could be paying $400–500+ more per year with Aflac. This is why it’s so important to compare carriers — and why working with an independent agent makes a real difference.
